Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about better-ed and conversational assessment.

About the product

Better-ed is a voice-enabled AI platform that runs conversational assessments with students. Students explain their understanding in their own words, and the AI evaluates depth of understanding against your learning objectives. It surfaces what multiple choice and written tests often miss: whether the student actually grasped the concept.

Conversational assessment is a method where students demonstrate understanding through structured dialogue rather than selecting answers or writing essays. The AI asks questions, listens to explanations, and follows up, the way a teacher would probe a student's thinking during a one-on-one conversation.

Better-ed is an assessment tool. It evaluates whether students can explain what they've learned. The AI asks questions, listens, and follows up, the way a teacher would during a one-on-one check-in. Teaching stays with you.

Teachers stay in full control. You decide what to assess, when to run it, and what to do with the results. Better-ed conducts individual conversations and evaluates explanations, so you can focus on teaching.

For Teachers

You can upload your lesson material (PDF, document, slides), type a topic or prompt, paste a YouTube URL, or choose from pre-made assessments aligned to the curriculum. Better-ed generates the conversational assessment automatically.

Students access the assessment via a link or code on any device with a browser. They respond by voice or text — explaining their understanding in their own words while the AI guides the conversation.

Most conversational assessments take 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the topic complexity and the depth of the student's responses.

Better-ed evaluates student responses automatically against your learning objectives. You receive a summary of understanding, misconceptions, and gaps, ready to review immediately after the assessment.

Yes. You get both a class-wide overview and detailed per-student breakdowns, including what they understood, where they struggled, and what misconceptions surfaced.

For Schools

We onboard your team, set up accounts for participating teachers, and provide training. Teachers run assessments in their regular classes, and you get aggregated results showing the impact on understanding visibility and teacher time.

A browser and internet connection. Better-ed is fully web-based: no installation, no special hardware, no IT overhead.

Yes. Better-ed complies with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Philippine data privacy standards (RA 10173). Student data is encrypted, access is role-based, and we follow responsible AI practices emphasizing transparency and ethical use.

Better-ed is designed to work alongside existing systems like Google Classroom. Direct LMS integrations are on our roadmap. Contact us for specific compatibility questions.

About the technology

The AI analyzes student explanations for depth, accuracy, and clarity—comparing them against the learning objectives you define. It identifies what the student understood, flags misconceptions, and highlights gaps in reasoning.

Conversational assessment is inherently resistant to cheating. The AI asks follow-up questions based on each student's own responses. Since every conversation responds to what the student actually said, pre-prepared answers surface quickly. Understanding has to be demonstrated in real time.

Better-ed works with any subject where students can explain concepts — from English and Social Studies to Science and Mathematics. Pre-made curriculum modules are currently focused on Philippine K-12 standards, with more subjects being added regularly.
